NABCO: Akufo-Addo’s gov’t has no strategy; no plan – Abass Nurudeen says

Abass Nurudeen, Ashanti Regional Communication Director of the biggest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described President Akufo-Addo’s administration as one that lacks vision and direction.

His comment is in relation to the New Patriotic Party’s government’s flagship programme, the Nation Builder’s Corps (NaBCo) programme which ended on September 1, 2022.

President Akufo-Addo launched, the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) program on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

He said the programme would be a vehicle to deliver 100,000 jobs to the youth to help alleviate the issue of graduate unemployment in Ghana.

A lot of the beneficiaries believed that they could be enrolled permanent basis.

Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Monday September 5, 2022, Abass Nurudeen stated that, if Akufo-Addo’s government had a strategy and plan, they could have used the GHc2 billion spent on NABCO on sustainable jobs.

According to him, the creation of NABCO was unnecessary because if the government had spent the NABCO money on about 20,000 people for sustainable jobs by now their business might have expanded.

“Akufo-Addo’s government has no strategy or no plan.
The money used for NABCO could have been used on only 20,000 people for sustainable jobs. By now, their businesses might have grown. They could have employed a number of people.” He stated.

Nurudeen stated that youth unemployment in the country has become a national security threat that the Akufo-Addo government must resolve immediately.
