Skit maker arrested over bank robbery prank

A 19-year-old Nigerian comedian has been arrested and charged to court after pulling off an expensive prank in a bank.

The skit maker identified as Eyinatayo Iluyomade allegedly dropped a threat note of robbery at First Bank in Ondo Town on Friday.

The Ondo State police spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident and stated that the skit maker made an expensive joke which will not be tolerated.

According to Funmilayo Odunlami, the suspect dropped a note at the counter indicating that his gang robbers will rob the bank soon and the police can do nothing about it.

“In the note, he wrote we are coming to rob, and there’s nothing your police can do. It was a mad move considering the insecurity situation in Nigeria and Ondo State. I don’t know his stage name. I don’t think he’s a known comedian, but he has been charged to court. He is currently standing trial, and the outcome would be made public,” t he Police spokesperson recounted.

Iluyomade was charged to court by the police on three count-charge bordering on conspiracy, threat and manner likely to pose a security threat.

In court, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and revealed that he dropped the note at the bank as a prank and that he has been doing this in Lagos until he relocated to Ondo Town.

The 19-year-old then pleaded with the court to forgive him and pleaded not to play such expensive pranks again.

The young boy was therefore denied a bail application and is currently in police custody to assist in investigations.
