Covid: Only essential travel should be undertaken to China – Foreign Affairs Ministry warns 

In view of Covid-19 situation in China the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has appealed to the general public to take necessary precautions when travelling to China. 

As much as possible, the Ministry said, only essential travel should be undertaken until further notice.

“Furthermore, government has decided that with effect from Friday 6th January 2023, all persons travelling from China to Ghana will now have to produce a 48hr negative PCR test and undergo mandatory antigen testing at the point of entry free of charge until further notice,” a statement issued by the Ministry said.

Following the situation in Chain, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has also revised its Covid-19 guidelines for the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to come into force effective Friday, January 6.

According to the updated guidelines, all passengers arriving from China will be required to present a valid negative Covid-19 PCR test result 48 hours prior to departure from originating country.

“In addition, such passengers will be required to undergo mandatory Covid-19 testing on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport at no cost.”

Passengers arriving from countries other than China will be required to present a valid negative Covid-19 PCR test result 48 hours prior to departure from originating country if they are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated.

They will also undergo a mandatory testing at no cost.

“In addition to the above, passengers may be randomly selected and offered test on arrival.”

Airlines have also been warned not to bring in passengers from China who have not been fully vaccinated and without a valid negative Covid-19 PCT test result.

Airlines who flout this will be surcharged $3,500.

“Non-Ghanaians travelling to Kotoka International Airport with fake or forged vaccination certificates shall be quarantined and returned to the point of embarkation at their own cost.”

All arriving passengers will, however, undergo a mandatory temperature screening, Yellow Fever Card verification and Covid-19 vaccination certificate verification as required.
