Alan Kyerematen resigns as Trade Minister

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has reportedly resigned from his position.

According to Jubilee House sources, Mr. Kyerematen popularly known as ‘Alan Cash’ tendered his resignation letter to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 5, 2022.

The reason for his resignation is however unclear.

Allan cash made his first leadership attempt in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2007 and his second in 2010 earned him a first runner-up position to Nana Akufo-Addo in the primaries.

Political Analysts perceive Mr. Kyerematen’s decision to be influenced by the intention to focus on his political career for election 2024.

Mr Kyerematen has gone through the ranks as far as politics is concerned. He started serving as Minister of Trade and Industry in President Akufo-Addo’s government in 2017 having served in a similar position in President Kufuor’s government from 2005 to 2007 before he similarly stepped down alongside all other aspirants who were serving as ministers and wanted to lead the NPP.

One notable achievement chalked, among others under his leadership as Minister of Trade and Industry, is the production of locally made vehicles by auto giants such as Suzuki, VW, Nissan and Sino Trucks under the Automotive Development Policy.

He was also pivotal in the government’s One-District-One-Factory agenda.

The NPP is however yet to fix a date for the presidential primaries.
