The 2021 Total CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament has been postponed, according to Footballghana.com.
According to an earlier confirmation from the continent’s football governing body, the youth championship was set to begin in Morocco from March 13 to 31.
With less than a week before the tournament begins, CAF’s Emergency Committee has decided to postpone it.
Despite the Committee’s positive impressions of the recent U-20 AFCON in Mauritania, they agree that canceling the U-17 AFCON is the right choice.
Many people voiced their displeasure with the competition, believing it was pointless to hold it because FIFA had already canceled the U-17 World Cup for this year.
Meanwhile, the CAF is gearing up for the resumption of the 2022 AFCON qualifying matches later this month.
The Ghanaian Black Stars are expected to face South Africa as well as So Tomé and Principe.
