Coronavirus: EU to strengthen exports of vaccines in the center of AstraZeneca row

“EU member states are united: vaccine manufacturers have societal and contractual duties they need to fulfill”

Ms Kyriakides said that the EU had requested ‘a thorough preparation of the supply of vaccines’ and that the next meeting would take place on Wednesday with representatives of the British-Swedish company.

“in the future, all companies producing vaccines against Covid-19 in the EU will have to provide early notification whenever they want to export vaccines to third countries” warned the Health Commissioner.

AstraZeneca said that it was “doing everything it can to bring its vaccine to millions of Europeans as early as possible”

The vaccine for Europe is primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom, while other locations on the continent are involved in the development of the jab. In India, AstraZeneca has a large manufacturing operation as well.

Other nations also said that they have already been informed of a decline in the availability of AstraZeneca, including Australia and Thailand.
