Kojo Addae-Mensah, DataBank Chief Executive Officer, has emphatically claimed that in the two CAF Inter-club competitions, no Ghanaian club can conquer Africa.
This season, Ghana’s sole representative in Africa, Asante Kotoko, is on the verge of removal after losing the first leg of Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup playoff against ES Setif.
At the Accra Sports Stadium, the match ended 2-1 in favor of the North African side.
In his take on Kotoko’s defeat to Setif after the game, Kojo Addae-Mensah said, “Although it was disappointing, it’s not surprising.” There’s no club right now in Ghana that can conquer Africa at the moment,’ said Ohene Bampoe Brenya on Happy 98.9FM.
“we are not up to that standard yet. So, the fans of Kotoko should lower their hopes. Though the team performed well. It was deceptive, but it was not surprising.
Since the team is not up there yet, he advised fans to lower their expectations in the Africa campaign.
“Our standards should be handled. We really aren’t there yet. Supporters’ standards should also be handled by the management.
I disagree with those who blamed the late substitution on the coach. Instead, I would blame the defensive pair for the equalizer that they have lost focus.
I doubt we would qualify for integrity if we were to be frank with us. But I wish all of them the best,’ he concluded.
In the second leg, Asante Kotoko will fly to play ES Setif in a week’s time.
