Another lockdown could have a number of effects on schools – Educationist

Africa Education Watch Fellow and educator Divine Kpe has said that another lockdown could have several implications for the country’s education.

He noted that an evaluation of the recent reopening of schools shows that most students are unable to recognise letter names and sounds.

Students have now spent 10 months at home and the impact we have all found is that we have a diagnostic test during this one week of commencement, and we know that students have missed a lot. I can tell that many children couldn’t even recognise the names of letters, let alone the sounds of letters. Once again, a closure would lose its learning.

His comments follow warnings by Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah that the country could be heading for tougher regulations and a potential lockdown should the cases of Covid-19 continue to increase.

Another lockdown that he states might likely lead to a growing amount of dropouts from school.
